I can hear the resounding yell of the lieutenant behind me as he continues to bark out orders to the stragglers of the search and rescue team. I keep trekking on without a thought in my mind, only a feeling of anxiety seeping into my body at the thought of what lays ahead. The trees loom over me like sentinels guarding a fortress. I am wondering what they are guarding when I am startled out of my anxious reverie by a firm hand clapping down on my shoulder from behind. I gasp, whipping my head around and tearing myself away from the unwelcome touch. My eyes become as round as the full moon that shines above, but as soon as I set them on the culprit I feel my cortisol levels begin to drop. It's my dad.
